East Gippsland Shire Council took delivery of a new FOD*BOSS airport runway sweeper today, after winning the Australian Airports Association (AAA) Airport Safety Week competition.

AAA Chief Executive Officer Caroline Wilkie said aerodrome coordinator Jason Connelly’s entry was an obvious choice for the judges.

The competition called for regional airports to explain why they should win the FOD*BOSS in 500 words or less, with Jason’s poem making a compelling and entertaining case on behalf East Gippsland Shire Council.

“Jason’s submission summed up just how important airport safety is, and demonstrated a real commitment to maintaining the highest possible safety standards across East Gippsland’s three aerodromes and five runways,” Ms Wilkie said.

“The FOD*BOSS will be a great asset for the team as they continue to focus on the safety of their passengers, staff and visitors in the future.”

The FOD*BOSS, donated by Airport Safety Week partner Aerosweep, is an effective and efficient sweeping solution for airfields and roads, and can be used for removing foreign object debris from runways.

Airport Safety Week was held from 16-20 October, with the week’s overall theme being One Airport, One Team.

The week aimed to encourage all staff and contractors working on an aerodrome to consider their obligations to provide a safe environment for all airport users.
