Victorians will soon have direct flights between Melbourne and Zhengzhou, with Jetstar set to commence two weekly services from December.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren joined Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka at Melbourne Airport today to announce the new service, adding close to 70,000 seats each way every year.

The announcement means Victoria will soon have direct flights to ten cities across China, with no other airline currently operating this route.

China is Victoria’s number one tourism market for both international visitor numbers and overall expenditure, with more than 570,000 visitors spending $2.6 billion in the 12 months to March.

And the future looks even brighter with close to a million Chinese visitors forecast to visit Victoria by 2024-25, contributing $3.4 billion to the economy.

That’s why the Andrews Labor Government is working to attract even more direct flights to bring more visitors to Victoria, create new jobs and boost our visitor economy.

Five new cities and three new Chinese airlines have commenced services from Qingdao, Xiamen, Changsha, Xi’an and Shenzhen to Victoria since 2016.
