AAA National Conference kicks off

Australian Airports Association Chairman Guy Thompson kicked of the 2018 AAA National Conference in Brisbane today, reflecting on the industry’s achievements this year.

Mr Thompson noted the year had seen many successes worth celebrating, from the progress of new runway projects in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast to terminal redevelopments in Cairns and Adelaide.

Ground transport initiatives in Melbourne and Sydney also marked important milestones, while Perth welcomed the arrival of new long-haul flights that will create new opportunities for the WA market.

New flight school announcements for Toowoomba Wellcamp and Tamworth airports were also notable milestones.

Mr Thompson said these achievements had occurred at the same time the industry continued to face new issues and challenges.

He noted the positive engagement between airports and CASA on changes to MOS Part 139 and a continued commitment to protecting regional airports had formed part of the AAA’s focus during the year.

The AAA National Conference takes place from 13-16 November in Brisbane.
